Find Out Why This Is The Best Whey Protein Powder Available
Whey has long been used by body builders who need to obtain a larger amount of proteins as they build their muscles.

It can be difficult getting the required amount of protein in a day and having a shake just makes it much easier.
The problem is deciding which one to get, there are so many manufacturers and varieties (and flavours) that it can be confusing.
I've been aware of the Optimum Nutrition brand for some time and decided to check out their whey product when I began a bulking phase.
Gold Standard Optimum Nutrition Whey
Optimum Nutrition is a pretty reputable company in the nutritional supplement field.
They're known to be a little more expensive than other brands but this is due to the higher quality nature of their products.
Gold Standard whey is no exception which uses their 'Hydrowhey' format for breaking down protein into peptides which lets your body utilize it quicker, great for after workouts when your muscles need protein to help start rebuilding.
This is a more costly way of utilizing protein, which accounts for the somewhat higher price tag of ON Whey, but it's also more effective and in my opinion worth the few extra dollars.
Get Extra Protein And More
Of course the extra proteins are one of the best parts about using whey. Most people do not eat the optimal amount of daily protein in the first place but those of us who work out often demand extra doses of this essential muscle building nutrient.
The fact that whey protein is absorbed into the body quicker makes it even better for you.
Eating a steak is a good source protein for instance, but takes a lot more time to be absorbed into the tissues that are being worked every day.
Whey begins to be absorbed immediately due to how it is formed as discussed earlier.
Optimum Nutrition whey gives you 24 grams of protein per serving (this doesn't include milk though if you use it which can add another 8 grams).
This makes it easy to keep up with your daily protein requirements, typically around 1 to 1.2 grams per body weight a day.
There are a few extra ingredients though, digestive enzymes, Glutamine and BCAAS which all help with the effectiveness of the protein absorption and metabolism, which means you get greater benefits from each serving.
Helps Lose Weight
Whey is also a great way to help in losing weight. Taken daily with proper nutrition and exercise (weight lifting) it helps to build up lean muscle tissue which then leads to greater fat loss.
Optimum Nutrition whey is also made with the least amount of extra calories possible, namely carbs, only about 1.2 grams. Each serving on it's own is about 113 calories, but as you can see these are almost all from the protein itself.
Depending on what you mix it with you might add more, for instance with whole milk like I drink it. But of course the option to mix with water is there for those who are really calorie conscious.

My Results
First of all I want to say how great it is to order from Amazon. I placed my order on a Sunday, by that evening I tracked the package to a depot and it ending up arriving the next day on Monday.
Doesn't get much faster than that, and the shipping was free. There's a link at the bottom of this review to order and I'm sure you can guess it leads to Amazon which I highly recommend.

How It Tastes
So the one thing about taking whey in powder is the taste of the mix. I've tried various powders in the past and some of them weren't the easiest to stick to due to the taste which can get sickening after a while.
I happened to choose the double chocolate flavour of my first order of Gold Standard as it seemed to be highly recommended.
Have to say I'm quite pleased in how it tastes, not too sweet or 'weird' like some other companies products (although maybe not all of ON's flavours are this good).
In fact I actually find myself craving it and find it pretty refreshing to drink after a workout. So if you like chocolate I'd recommend you try this flavour first.
I'll probably get another one to test out on the next order but can see myself sticking to the double chocolate for the most part.
Does It Work?
Results wise it's really hard to distinguish the effects of this versus other food I'm eating. I've read of people saying they made great gains while on this but there are a lot of other factors that are involved there.
For me the most important thing was to get a high quality whey that tastes good and on that front Optimum Nutrition delivered.
Sizes And Flavors
Optimum Whey Gold Standard comes in different flavors and sizes. First of all the sizes come as 1lbs, 2lbs, 5lbs, and 10lbs. I highly recommend you go for one of the bigger sizes if possible.
The reason? The price is almost have per ounce for the 10lb pack over the 1lb one so that will save you quite a bit in the long run.
Flavors are:
- Coffee
- Delicious Strawberry
- French Vanilla Cream
- Cookies and Cream
- Cake Batter
- French Vanilla Creme
- Banana Cream
- Chocolate Mint
- Rocky Road
- Strawberry Banana
- Tropical Punch
- Mocha Cappuccino
- Chocolate Coconut
- Chocolate Malt
- Mocha Cappuccino
- Caramel Toffee Fudge
- White Chocolate
- Vanilla Ice Cream
- Double Rich Chocolate
- Extreme Milk Chocolate
What's the best flavour? That's really going to depend on your own preference. I'd start with one of the simpler flavors like coffee or double rich chocolate (my current favourite) and go from there.
