If you enjoyed P90X, the intense workout program developed by fitness guru Tony Horton in conjunction with Beachbody and MEGA MACE, then you are sure to get excited about its sequel—P90X2, the workout program which takes everything you learned in P90X to the next level.
Get ready to tear the roof off your limits and work out harder and more effectively than ever. P90X2 brings together the newest cutting-edge research of qualified experts to craft a whole new program for ultimate fitness.
That program is based on the same principles of Muscle Confusion which formed the basis for the original program, however—so if you enjoyed the process and the results of the first program, you’re sure to dig the sequel, which will help you break through plateaus with 12 groundbreaking, sweat-breaking workouts.
You can participate in P90X2 if you already participated in the original workout or if you didn’t—either way you’ll be able to benefit tremendously.
The P90X2 Process
Like P90X, P90X2 is a 90-day program which you’ll follow diligently until completion. As with the first program, you’ll be regularly switching to new exercises which will surprise your body and keep it guessing—a key to avoiding plateaus, not to mention boredom.
During these 90 days you’ll work out your core and develop strength, balance, flexibility, and endurance. The program is broken into three phases. Phase 1 is the Foundation, and lasts 3-5 weeks. During this phase you’ll work mainly on developing your core muscles and your balance.
This is the “foundation” you’ll need to progress onto the next level. Phase 2 is the Strength phase, lasting 3-6 weeks. During this phase you’ll develop muscles throughout your body. Phase 3 is the Performance phase, lasting 3-4 weeks. This is the phase which will include P.A.P. (Post Activation Potentiation) workouts. At the end you’ll have a Recovery Week.
As with the original P90X program, all you need to do the workouts are a pair of dumbbells appropriate to your fitness level or resistance bands, and a bit of time and space.
This is one of the few exercise programs you’ll find which doesn’t require you to spend a lot of money on equipment and other products.
What you bring to the table in terms of dedication and energy is going to determine your progress—not how much money you’re willing to spend.
Types Of Workouts
What are the workouts you’ll be doing in the P90X program? Most of the exercises take about an hour to complete; some take slightly longer while others are slightly shorter. As you’ll see, these exercises work out every part of your body for a holistic and integrated approach.
The X2 Core is one of the first exercises you’ll do since it works on your foundation and is the cornerstone of the program. This will improve all of your movements in the other exercises. Plyocide is an exercise which includes explosive movements along with mind-body coordination.

X2Recovery + Mobility is a program which involves rest and which helps you to align your body and develop flexibility and poise. X2 Total Body is a form of resistance training which helps you build muscle.
X2 Yoga is included in the second program, as it was in the original, only it’s a shorter exercise which will take you just 68 minutes. Many customers felt the original Yoga workout was a bit long, so this will come as welcome news for many.
X2 Balance + Power gives you an exercise which will strengthen your core and improve your balance. Chest + Back + Balance is a workout which uses unstable platforms in order to provide you with a unique and powerful strength building opportunity. X2 Shoulders + Arms will help you to develop your upper body.
Base + Back will help you to sculpt your core muscles using pull-up and plyo exercises. The P.A.P. lower and upper exercises are revolutionary exercises which have helped many pro athletes to take their game to the next level. Finally, the X2 Ab Ripper will help you to sculpt your abs into the 6-pack you’ve always wanted.
Want to get even more out of P90X2?
If you purchase the Deluxe or Ultimate P90X2 kits, you can get access to additional extreme workouts including V Sculpt, an exercise designed for your biceps and back, and X2 Chest + Shoulders + Tris which take your shoulders and chest to a higher level of fitness and strength.
Same Effort Required
As with the original P90X program, this program doesn’t promise you instant satisfaction or overnight results.
The program is based off of the assumption that you’re willing to put in three months of hard effort. If you take breaks from the workouts or don’t work out all the days you’re directed to, your performance may suffer.
If you stop the workouts early or don’t complete all the workouts you’re required to at the prescribed times, you may not achieve the same great results of others.
The program also requires that you follow the nutritional plan and have a healthy lifestyle in order to obtain the best results. Can you benefit by only doing the workouts?
Certainly, but not nearly as much as you will if you eat the healthy diet suggested in the nutritional plan. The right nutrition will give your body what it needs to repair and grow new muscle tissue.
Working out without that nutrition can actually deprive your body and cause health problems.
Nutritional Plan
Why does P90X2 include a brand new nutritional plan? The guide included with the original program was a lot more lenient—it was intended to be accessible to more people, and therefore gave you some room to eat the occasional junk food.
As the years have passed, more people have developed a greater awareness of healthy eating and organic food, so P90X2 no longer gives you that leeway for bad nutrition. Now you’re given a healthier food list than ever, one which also reflects some of the nutritional discoveries of the past nine years since the original program was developed.
Differences In Both Plans
What are some of the specific differences between the original nutritional plan and this one? The P90X2 plan incorporates the new scientific understanding that some dietary fats are important. The program also includes different diets, such as Fat Shredder 2.0 and Energy Booster 2.0, along with a guide to help you figure out which diet is right for you.
Brand new charts and graphs have been included to make it easier to understand your daily nutrition. P90X2 also offers alternative meal plans for vegans and for customers who have gluten allergies.
The guide provides instructions for calculating macronutrient numbers yourself.
Calendar Included
As with the previous version, you’ll get a day-by-day calendar which includes numerous delicious recipes. Not only will this keep you on track during the 90-day program, but it will also teach you many tasty recipes you can enjoy long after the exercise program is completed. You’ll be given menus which cover breakfast, lunch, and dinner and you’ll get to enjoy a wide range of foods.
Even though you won’t be following the intense exercise program for a long time period, you can follow the meal plan over the long term (and even though you won’t work out as hard every day for the rest of your life, you can still do those same exercises in moderation to maintain the fitness you achieve with the program).
If you don’t follow the nutritional guide, you won’t benefit nearly as much as you could from the exercise routines.
Eating poorly just sends you backwards, unraveling all the progress you make when you work out. Since you’re putting your body through more stress by working out so rigorously, you need to make sure you’re getting all the energy and nutrition you need.
You may need to customize the meal plans a bit to fit your personal needs, but one great thing about the P90X2 meal guide is that it recognizes just that—that everyone is different and that every person will have a unique plan for well being and fitness success.
Dietary Supplements
While you’re doing the P90X2 exercise program, you can enjoy the nutritional benefits of the same great supplements you used while doing the original program.
This includes the P90X2 Slimming Formula, the 2-Day Fast Formula, premium health and protein shakes, Core Cal-Mag, Core Omega-3, Core Nutrition Pack, ActiVit Multivitamins, E&E Energy and Endurance Formula, P90X Results and Recovery Formula, and Performance Formula.

All these supplements are manufactured by Beachbody; some of the supplements are meal-replacement snacks and protein bars while others are drinkable formulas which are formulated to boost your energy and replenish your body with antioxidants.
P90X2 formulas help your body to burn fat more efficiently and even to synthesize new muscle tissue as you work out. Beachbody avoids including artificial sweeteners and flavors; reviewing their ingredient lists you’ll find only safe and effective ingredients which have received plenty of testing in research trials.
Results
P90X2 is a big commitment, although perhaps not as sizeable a commitment as the original program in that you only have to work out five days a week and not six. Still, five days of strenuous exercises a week for three months is hardly a walk in the park, and you have to be committed to get results from P90X2.
What do customer reviews have to say about the program’s effectiveness?
You’ll find a lot of very positive reviews for P90X2, just as you did for the original P90X workout program. Results differ based on each individual; many factors can impact the final results.
Even customers who say they didn’t take all the supplements or skipped some of the exercises said that they benefited from the program, although those customers who did take the supplements, stick with the prescribed exercise schedule, and followed the healthy diet plan saw the most positive change in their lives.
One thing which a lot of reviewers found impressive about P90X2 was that the program doesn’t promise instant results—in fact it doesn’t promise anything to customers who aren’t willing to do hard work.
It may be tempting to try an exercise program which is less strenuous or requires less of a commitment, but the reality is that the exercise programs out there which promise instant gratification can’t deliver—because positive change just isn’t possible without work.
There is no supplement which can help you grow muscle without your participation, and there is no exercise plan which can make you thinner or stronger or more agile if you aren’t willing to invest yourself in it.
Since P90X2 makes only reasonable promises of reasonable results, it can actually deliver on those promises. Customers who brought their best efforts to the table reported favorable results—that they built muscle, burned fat, and felt fitter than ever.
Is It Right For You?
Why should participate in P90X2? This exercise program is intended for adult men and women ages eighteen and higher. Younger people have participated in P90X2, but should only do so with adult supervision. This program can be adjusted to fit your personal requirements.
If you have health issues you may still be able to participate in the program, but since it is quite strenuous, you should first consult with a physician to ensure that the activities will be safe for you before you do so.
To get the most out of P90X2, you’ll need the right mindset and realistic expectations and goals. This program won’t provide you with an instant change in terms of your physique or your health. It won’t be easy, and you will find the workouts intense and exhausting.
This program is appropriate for any healthy adult who wants a challenge and is ready to improve slowly and steadily over the course of three months by working out hard and eating healthily. If that sounds like you, then look into P90X2, and get in on the cutting edge of fitness.
Purchase
When you're ready to buy the P90X2 the only thing left to decide on is what version of the program you'll get. There are three different packages available, the Base, Deluxe, and Ultimate.
The Deluxe adds two extra workouts, a foam roller, stability ball and two medicine balls. The Ultimate has a Rumble roller instead of the regular roller that comes with the Deluxe pack, it includes the same three balls and then adds PowerStands.
